Lead Development Program
CGT-2168
CGT-2168 is a unique once-daily oral formulation that
combines clopidogrel* with a gastroprotectant (omeprazole)
that is designed to significantly reduce the gastrointestinal
side effects commonly associated with antiplatelet therapy.
While antiplatelet medicines have been shown to prevent
major cardiovascular events in patients with cardiovascular
disease, treatment with medicines such as clopidogrel,
aspirin or the frequent combination of the two, is associated
with gastrointestinal bleeding, which in some cases
can require hospitalization and even result in death.
A Phase 3 clinical program for CGT-2168 is ongoing.
*Clopidogrel is marketed as Plavix® by Bristol-Myers
Squibb Co. and Sanofi-Aventis
COGENT
The Phase 3 program for CGT-2168 is named COGENT (Clopidogrel
and the Optimization of Gastrointestinal Events Trial).
The COGENT program is designed to measure the incidence
of upper gastrointestinal bleeding and ulcers in patients
who take CGT-2168 and aspirin compared with patients
who take clopidogrel and aspirin. The program is expected
to enroll approximately 4,000 patients worldwide.
For more information on COGENT, please go to www.clinicaltrials.gov.
The
COGENT program is overseen by a distinguished international
Scientific Steering Committee. |
